I can’t fund my Sogexia account by bank transfer: what should I do?

If your transfer to your Sogexia payment account won’t go through (rejected, unusual delay, can’t add a new beneficiary), follow the steps below. In most cases, the cause is a security setting or a “new payee/beneficiary” flow on the sending bank’s side.

1. Quick checks

  • Double-check the IBAN (copy/paste from the app to avoid typos).

  • Transfer type: choose SEPA “Standard” (often labelled “European transfer”), not “international”, and don’t force “instant” if it fails.

  • Beneficiary name: enter your own name (the holder of the Sogexia account), exactly as shown in the app.

  • BIC: add it if your bank asks for it.

  • Limits: check your transfer limits and any security waiting period for a new payee (often 24–48h).

Good to know: Across the EU/EEA, an IBAN from another member state (e.g. LU) must be accepted for SEPA transfers. Refusing a non-local IBAN (e.g. insisting on an “FR” IBAN in France) is IBAN discrimination, prohibited by Article 9 of Regulation (EU) No 260/2012.

2. Add Sogexia as a trusted beneficiary (“whitelist”)

Depending on your bank, you may need to authorise or mark as trusted transfers to certain providers (payment institutions/fintechs) or enable external transfers:

  • Add your Sogexia IBAN as a new beneficiary (payee), then:

    • Turn on “Trusted beneficiary” (or “verified payee”) if available.

    • Confirm the new payee via 3-D Secure/SMS code.

  • If offered, allow transfers to payment institutions / “non-bank accounts”.

  • If a security delay applies (e.g. 24–48h), wait for it to expire, then try again.

  • If the mobile app won’t let you add it, try your bank’s web online banking (often more complete) or temporarily disable any “instant-only” filter.

Tip: In a secure message to your bank, write: “I wish to authorise SEPA transfers to my Sogexia payment account (payment institution, IBAN [your IBAN]). Please add this beneficiary to my trusted list.”

3. Make the first transfer in branch

Some banks require the first transfer to a new IBAN to be carried out at a branch counter. Take with you:

  • Your Sogexia IBAN details (from your customer area/app).

  • This note for the adviser:
“This is a standard SEPA transfer to an LU IBAN. Under Article 9 of Regulation (EU) 260/2012, requiring a local IBAN is not permitted. Please execute the SEPA order.”

4. Common blockers (and how to work around them)

  • Instant transfer forced: switch to SEPA standard. Not all banks support instant to every IBAN.

  • BIC required / “international” path: use “European (SEPA) transfer”, not “outside SEPA”.

  • New payee checks: allow 24–48h anti-fraud delay + complete 3-D Secure validation.

  • Daily limit reached: increase the limit temporarily or split the amount.

  • Restricted beneficiaries: enable Trusted beneficiary / external transfers.

  • Name mismatch: use your exact name as shown in the Sogexia app.

5. If your bank still refuses (IBAN discrimination)

  1. Inform your bank in writing that the LU IBAN is SEPA-eligible and must be accepted (cite Article 9 of Regulation 260/2012).

  2. Lodge a complaint via your online banking secure mailbox.

  3. If unresolved, escalate to the national authority of the bank’s country.

  • In France, the DGCCRF can fine entities up to €375,000 for breaches of Article 9 (since October 2021).

  • The European Commission lists country-by-country redress channels (online submission).

6. Institutions where friction is most commonly reported (indicative)

⚠️ This section is evolving. Policies change; a named institution may already have fixed the issue. We don’t publish names unless backed by recent official public notices or decisions. Public reports most often mention:

  • Banks that default to instant and hide the standard SEPA route.

  • Providers wrongly demanding a local IBAN to send/receive payments (historically more reports in France and Spain).

  • Services/platforms (telecoms, subscriptions, public bodies, marketplaces) restricting non-local IBANs for direct debits (SDD) — even though this is unlawful.

FAQ

My “instant” transfer fails — is that normal?
Yes, if either bank doesn’t support instant for this recipient or a fraud filter triggers. Try a standard SEPA instead.

They ask for an “FR” IBAN — can I use my “LU” IBAN?
Yes. In SEPA, IBANs from any member state must be accepted for transfers/direct debits. Refusing a non-local IBAN is illegal (Article 9, Regulation 260/2012).

Can I force my bank to process it?
You can cite the law, request standard SEPA processing, and escalate to the competent authority (e.g. DGCCRF in France) which can impose penalties.

How long does a standard transfer take?
Usually 1 business day (up to 2 depending on cut-off times and banks).
